When a cigarette, then the mouth will be in contact with cigarettes, includinghazardous chemicals in it. This condition could actually make the good bacteria inthe mouth of death.
During these cigarettes are known to be risk factors for lung cancer. Butcigarettes are also found to increase risk of diseases in the mouth because it killsthe good bacteria in the mouth.
Researchers from Ohio State University to collect biofilm of oral (mouth) 30healthy individuals, in which 15 of them were smokers. These samples were collected on the day of the second, fourth and seventh after cleaning by experts toreduce the contribution of other variables.
The results found by researchers is the most disease-causing pathogens are not found in the mouth of the participants who did not smoke that indicated by the lack of cytokines.
This indicates that the body does not assume the existence of healthy bacteria in the mouth as something dangerous. The results of this study are reported in the journal Infection and Immunity.
Meanwhile, the group of smokers, the researchers found the presence ofpathogens in the mouth within 24 hours after cleaning, as well as high levels of cytokines that showed that the body is ready to fight diseases caused by germs.
"The mouth of smokers would kick out the good bacteria and pathogens can enter easily. So they were allowed to proliferate more rapidly than in non-smokingenvironment," said study leader Professor Purnima Kumar, as quoted byMedindia on Saturday (18/2 / 2012).
The results of this study further adds to the long list of bad things that might be experienced by the smokers, because it not only causes lung cancer, heart disease and impotence, but also kill the good bacteria in the mouth that cancause disease one of which is cancer of the mouth.
